Espresso Coffee Beans - FAQs
What is espresso coffee?
Espresso is a concentrated form of coffee made by forcing hot water through finely-ground coffee beans. It typically has a thicker consistency, and a higher concentration of flavours compared to regular drip coffee.
How much crema should espresso have?
The amount of crema on an espresso is a bit like the amount of head on a pint. It’s widely agreed that espresso crema should make up 1/10th of the overall volume of the shot and should remain on the shot for around two minutes.
Is espresso blend coffee better than single origin?
When choosing between espresso blend and single origin coffee, consider roast, flavor, and processing. Espresso blends typically use medium to dark roasts for rich, balanced flavors, while single origins are lighter roasted to highlight unique regional characteristics. Single origin coffees are bold and distinct, whereas blends offer a more balanced, varied flavor. Processing methods like dry, wet, and honey processing further influence the coffee’s taste, from earthy to sweet and complex.
How much caffeine is in espresso compared to regular coffee?
Despite its strong flavour, a single shot of espresso (approximately 1 ounce) typically contains less caffeine than a standard cup of drip coffee (8-12 ounces). However, because espresso is more concentrated, a double shot or larger serving will contain more caffeine.
How to make a cappuccino
Firstly, start by brewing a shot or two of espresso using dark roasted espresso beans. Steam the milk until it’s foamy and around 65 degrees. Pour the milk over the espresso, ensuring a thick layer of froth. We also have a step by step how to make a cappuccino at home available on our blog.
How do I store my coffee beans?
Coffee beans can be stored in any type of airtight container, this is to avoid exposure from damaging elements such as sunlight, moisture, heat, and oxygen. You want to ensure your beans are at the best to brew a flavorful, aromatic cup of coffee.
