Discover the Smooth, Refreshing Taste of Cold Brew Coffee with Pumphrey's
As the summer months heat up, there’s no better way to enjoy your coffee than with a smooth, refreshing cold brew. Unlike iced coffee, which is simply brewed hot and then chilled, cold brew is steeped in cold water over an extended period, resulting in a naturally sweet and less acidic flavour that’s perfect for warm days. A favourite in our Grainger Market store to make seasonally, and easy to make at home.
What Makes Cold Brew So Special?
At Pumphrey's Coffee, we believe in bringing out the best in every bean, and cold brew is another exciting way to highlight the rich, nuanced taste of our carefully selected coffee. Cold brew coffee extracts different flavours and properties compared to hot brew due to the lower temperature, which slows the solubility and extraction of specific compounds like acids, oils, and aromatic molecules. This results in a smoother, less acidic, and sometimes sweeter coffee with muted aromas and a lighter body, as fewer acids and aromatic compounds are extracted. The slower extraction in cold brew also reduces oxidation, preserving a fresher and more stable taste over time.
Whether you prefer it black, with a splash of milk, or even as the base for a coffee cocktail, cold brew offers endless possibilities. It is a forgiving method for brewing at home and it's able to stay fresher for longer (Store up for up to a week refrigerated). Why Colombian Coffee is Perfect for Cold Brew
When it comes to choosing the right beans for cold brew, Colombian coffee is a standout option. Known for its well-balanced flavour profile, Colombian coffee typically features bright acidity, smooth body, and rich notes of caramel, nuts, and citrus. These characteristics make it an ideal choice for cold brew, as the slow extraction process enhances the coffee’s natural sweetness and mellows its acidity, resulting in a smooth, flavourful cup that’s incredibly refreshing.
Our Colombian Medellin, in particular, shines in cold brew. The extended steeping process accentuates its subtle fruity undertones and nutty finish, offering a complex yet approachable taste that’s perfect for sipping over ice on a warm day.
