Our Espresso Crema blend: for billowing crema with a velvety body!
n.b Some 'Bean to Cup' machines may be designed in a way that oiler beans are not recommended for use, please check machine manuals before using.
Espresso crema is popular with coffee shops and our home espresso users. It does exactly what it says on the tin: Produce Espresso Crema.
Ever Since Achille Gaggia invented the espresso machine crema has been an integral part of the experience of espresso. Extracting the coffee bean oils from this blend will help you produce that 'Guinness effect' we all want from good espresso.
Freshly roasted coffee will produce a thick layer of espresso crema on top of a shot of espresso. Older coffee will produce less crema.
If you want 'the holy grail' of billowing crema, a crema espresso gourmet, then you need to try the following:
· Choose a slightly darker roasted coffee.
· Grind the beans to make ground coffee just before you brew
· Make sure the coffee is freshly roasted.
· Dial-in your grinder.
· Instruct your espresso machine to dose the correct volume of hot water.
You can't help but produce a perfect espresso shot when you follow these rules.
Unlike most roasters, our open flame roasting process hardens the casing of our dark roast coffee beans. This means that we can roast our coffee slightly darker than other roasters without getting burnt flavours. Doing this helps to release carbon dioxide and develops the caramel flavours that this blend is so well known for.
Taste
We roast this blend until the natural oils start to emerge from the coffee bean. This gives the blend a traditional dark roast 'Italian Espresso' flavour and an excellent espresso crema head.
Origin
This is a blend of coffees from around the world which all work together to create the consistency required by coffee shop owners who want to be able to guarantee a flavour and taste to their customers. It’s currently a blend of coffees from Ethiopia, Brazil and Vietnam but will change slightly in its make up throughout the year to create that consistently good espresso crema.
Ingredients
100% Arabica Coffee for the perfect crema
Recommended preparation
This one, really is, just for espresso machine brewing, pure and simple.
2:1 Brewed Espresso: Coffee ratio
Lower temperatures, if you can, will soften the bitter elements. We’ve had great success down even as low as 86 degrees Celsius in our showroom.

Espresso crema
Delicious coffee1 Absolutely the best, been ordering it for years now, the service has always been excellent and can't see me ever drinking any other coffee at home!

Best we've found
Good strongly flavoured beans with a good oil yield and crema. Makes a great espresso and works really well through steamed milk.

Too oily
This coffee smelled amazing. But the beans were so oily, they clog up my machine, the coffee it’s self is quite bitter and not a nice smooth one at all. Quite disappointed as I had heard very good things about pumpherys coffee. I think if I did try again I would steer clear of the espresso roasts all together.

Excellent flavourand crema without any of the bitterness that often comes with blends this strong
Having tried many blends of coffee for a base shot for the hot espresso, smooth cappuccino or long americano, I haven't found anything better.
