The co-operative Grano de Oro was founded in March 2013, the founding members were 21 producers from districts in Pichaniki and Rio Negro. Peru produces an exceptionally high quality coffee due to its extremely high altitudes and fertile soil. The beans are harvested between May and September and are wet-washed by hand or mechanically when they reach the processing stations. The cherry is usually pulped, fermented and dried in the sun on raising beds or drying sheds. Drying greenhouses and parabolic beds are becoming more common as farmers pivot towards speciality markets. Peru MCM Grade 1 is characterised by medium to low acidity with a complex aroma. The coffee is mild with a slightly sweet berry flavour and you can taste a hint of dark chocolate, it leaves a pleasant aftertaste on the palate.
