Uganda NKG Bloom Silverback comes from several cooperatives comprised of smallholder farmers who manage around 0.45 acres. The varieties are grown between 1500 and 3050 metres above sea level, those at lower altitudes begin harvesting in September while the higher altitude regions begin in November and continue through to February. The coffee is produced at the Bulambuli washing station – a district in Eastern Uganda near the Kenya border. Built in 2022, this new site is for washing, pulping, drying and fermenting coffee. The members deliver the cherries to the washing station where they are assessed to meet quality standards and weighed, next they are floated to remove any low density or damaged beans. The washed process involves the cherries being machine pulped then fermented for 12-72 hours before being washed. Finally they are moved to raised beds where they are dried between 12 – 28 days depending on the weather. NKG Bloom focuses on offering producers three key offerings: mobile money advances, professional assistance in agriculture and business best practices, lastly soil analysis and fertiliser application.
