San Lorenzo founded in 1923 is the second district of the Canton of Tarrazu, the communities program has run since 2012 with Coope Tarrazu was designed to help promote the characteristics of the coffee in the micro zones of the region. San Lorenzo is one of the communities that contribute to the Costa Rican coffees and have been growing in the area for 90 years. The coffee of the Tarrazu region is one of the most recognised and represents around 40% of the national production. This is done between 1200-1900 metres above sea level in an ideal climate and soil conditions for cultivation, most of the plantations in this area are under shade.
Natural processed coffees are harvested fully ripe when the cherries are a deep red, they are then transported to the local mill by 4pm to be dried. The coffee is cupped many times to ensure quality, first when dried then 2 weeks later after being rested in silos and again after 4 weeks. Samples are sent for approval at 6-7 weeks and undergo one last cupping before they leave for shipping. There are approximately 211 members of the community who deliver around 3500.00 fanegas of the coffee harvested each year
