Hopefully helping you to develop your palate as the subscription progresses.
Why choose a Pumphreys Coffee Bean Subscription?
Pumphreys is a small family run business that has been operating in the North East of England, specifically Newcastle upon Tyne since 1750. Once operated from the Flesh Market opposite the Bigg Market in Newcastle City Centre, our Roasting Rooms and factory are now based in Blaydon on Tyne. With a further location in the heart of the city centre in the iconic Grainger Arcade.
All of our ‘Coffee of the Months’ are ethically sources so that we can showcase a wide range of smaller cooperatives and farmers that are not usually widely available on the open market. This allows us to support smaller businesses and help with their initiatives to improve living standards, increase education and provide training in the most remote areas of the coffee growing world.
Every bag of coffee is expertly roasted on our Whitmee Open Flame roaster, creating unique flavour profiles not usually found within these coffees. Stuart Lee Archer our Head Roaster has been finessing his craft since 2009, ensuring that each and every roast is given the time and attention required to create truly delicious speciality coffees. Unlike more modern roasters, which rely on temperature probes and computer algorithms. The Whitmee requires the roaster to listen to the coffee whilst it is roasting, keeping an eye on colour and waiting for the coffee to crack. This roasting process is learnt through years of experimentation. We always encourage our local customers to get in contact to book a visit to our Roasting Rooms, so that they can see this unusual process in action but of course you can get your monthly deliveries anywhere in the UK.
