Best hot drinks for autumn

With the weather getting cooler (at least in theory), many of us are looking for drinks to warm us up. A nice hot drink is something everyone associates with autumn, along with woolly jumpers, orange leaves, and misty mornings. As we approach this season, as well as winter, one of the best ways to make the most of it is by sharing some wonderful warm beverages with friends and family.

In this blog, we’ve compiled a list of our top hot drinks for autumn this year.

What to look for in a hot drink

The possible flavour and texture combinations of hot drinks are almost endless, so it’s up to you to decide what will scratch your itch. Of these options, one that’s largely exclusive to autumn and winter is spices. The likes of cloves and cinnamon add an extra dimension of warmth to drinks which is lovely.

These drinks don’t have to complicated to make. A great way to achieve simplicity and flexibility is by flavouring tea and coffee with things you already have in the kitchen. Think of it like mulling.

5 great hot drinks for autumn

Hot vanilla coffee

A twist on the hot vanilla, this drink uses vanilla flavoured coffee to add a different dimension. Add steamed milk to your freshly brewed espresso, along with some fresh nutmeg and cinnamon. You can even steam the milk once it has been heated for an extra luscious brew.

Hot chocolate

Frankly, hot chocolate is an acceptable hot drink all year round. That being, said it’s particularly good during those miserable wet autumn days. In our opinion, a truly great hot chocolate is customised with a variety of drink toppings.

Apple and cinnamon tea

This is a classic flavour combination which you’re likely to find in many supermarkets and convenience stores at this time of year. However, making this at home ensures the drink is balanced. Plus, it’s super simple.

Strain one heaped teaspoon of cinnamon flavoured tea and leave to infuse for 3-5 minutes. Go longer if you want a stronger spice element. Remove any tea leaves and add around a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Sugar is optional but this tea is recommended served black.

A classic mocha

You can’t go wrong with a warm and chocolatey mocha to take the chill off a cool autumn day. Make sure to check out our other guide ‘How to make the perfect mocha coffee’ to get your mocha just right. A perfect mocha is a reflection on the ingredients used to make it, if you use cheap chocolate flavouring or coffee you won’t get the full flavour benefits of a mocha. Shop our daterra sunrise coffee and monbana hot chocolate for a silky smooth and balanced mocha.

Orange tea

Orange is one of those flavours that pairs extremely well with spices such as cinnamon, cardamon and star anise. Take any good quality orange flavoured tea and feel free to experiment by adding additional flavours.
