Origin

Peru is located in South America on the western coastline just south of Ecuador. This Spanish speaking country, counts mining, fishing, manufacturing and agriculture as the main industries that bolster their economy. Having gone through many years of political change, post independence, it is now beginning to thrive without losing its cultural roots. The diversity stretches throughout the population, with many people still choosing to speak their native languages such as Quecha and wear traditional clothing.

Coffee from Peru benefits greatly from many different microclimates perfect for coffee growing. This is due to the large coastal plains, high Andes mountains and high altitude as well as the Amazon Basin, which all contribute to the creation of great biodiversity in this country and their thriving coffee industry.

About Peru Coffee

The current coffee output from Peru is around 4 million bags a year, making it a leading exporter of this product. The production is mainly based in the north of the country, where the growing conditions lead to toffee, fudge and caramel flavours, mild acidic citrus notes and subtle body. The majority of producers in Peru are operated by small holdings on coffee farms typically less than 3 hectares in size, that then organise themselves in to well run well managed cooperatives
