Brazil Alta Mogiana coffee is one of the traditional regions that produces coffee in Brazil, the region takes its name from the railway system – which was built to transport the large volumes of coffee.
Coffee has been grown in Alta Mogiana since the 19th century, the farms benefit from a combination of rich volcanic soil, ample rainfall and well-defined seasons. The warm days and cool nights create optimal conditions for the slow maturation of the cherries. The rainfall also ensures the plants receive the necessary hydration while avoiding excessive moisture which helps prevent diseases and promotes healthy growth.
Some producers handpick the harvest while others have started mechanical harvesting. In the drying process the cherries are spread out to dry in the sun in brick patios or drying machines are used. Once dried the coffee is vacuum packed and sent to Santos.
This region has earned the Denomination of origin status – this recognises the unique geographical and environmental attributes that influence the coffees characteristics
