Rwanda Kinini Natural refers to high-quality naturally processed coffee from the Kinini Washing Station in Rwanda's Rulindo District. Established by Malcolm Clear and Jacquie turner this cooperative is supporting genocide survivors and helps with providing sustainable income and community benefits. The Northern Province in Rwanda is one of five established through a government decentralization initiative designed to restructure administration locally. Coffee grown here is heavily intercropped on small farms and gardens along the hillside, satellite technology is used to monitor the leaf glare from the tree as changes can be a sign of disease or infestation. With inconsistent weather and high altitudes this has led to a widening of the cropping period from late March all the way through to December. The cherry must be delivered by 4pm on the day of picking with infrastructure being built to achieve this, as the washing stations grow raised beds have expanded to allow the cherry to be spread out and dried for 48 days at depths of 2 inches turning regularly to avoid over fermentation and even drying. Each raised bed comes with its own marker to ensure microlot traceability.
