Coffee of the Month - February 2025 Brazil, Daterra Buena Vista

Daterra has three different farms, Boa Vista, Taboues and Franca, each lot is subdivided into

1-5 hectares and assigned their own agronomist who logs all the data. With 3500 hectares as protected forest, Daterra are carbon negative and the first B-Corp coffee farm in the world.

Coffee from this area uses the pulped method, engineers at Daterra have been able to specifically modify the 40 mechanical pickers to do this. UNIPAC is a system that uses mechanics to pulp the coffee under water pressure specific to maturation level or sorts the beans for natural processing according to flotation and screen size. Once processed the final beans they are triple colour sorted before being packed. Separate machines have been developed to clean up and gather the sweepings and fallen beans, these are processed in their own mill to maintain the cleanliness of the UNIPAC system.
